When it comes to return policies, there are some stores that have it better than others! We compiled a list of retailers with the best and worst return policies. The retailers that topped the list have exceptional customer service, give at least 30 or unlimited days for a full refund and some even allow you to return used merchandise! One of the top retailers has not even opened all of their Canadian locations yet, but we couldn’t resist adding them to our list – their return policy was just too good! The retailers that made the worst list have super confusing return policies with different time limits for different merchandise, don’t allow full refunds or give shoppers a very limited time restriction on returns and exchanges. The Best Return Policies

1. Sephora

Their Policy: Unused/gently used items can be returned within 30 days of purchase for a full refund with the original receipt. After 30 days and with the original receipt, unused/gently used items can be exchanged for merchandise or store credit. Unused/gently used items without a receipt but found in the system can be returned for store credit. If an item you’ve purchased goes on sale within two weeks of purchase, Sephora will reimburse you the difference as long as you have the original receipt or receipt number.

2. H&M

Their Policy: Unused, unwashed and defective merchandise with the original tags can be returned within 30 days of purchase date for a full refund with the original receipt. Merchandise returned after 30 days with the receipt will be refunded on store credit at the lowest active sale price. Unused and unwashed merchandise with the original tags and without an original receipt can be exchanged or refunded on store credit at the lowest active sale price. H&M reserves the right to refuse any returns without a receipt.

3. Canadian Tire

Their Policy: Unopened items in original packaging can be returned within 90 days of the purchase with the original receipt for a full refund to the original method of payment. Electronics must be returned within 30 days. Auto electronics must be returned within 14 days. Canadian Tire offers receipt look up for debit/credit purchases. Canadian Tire has the rights to refuse any items that are opened, damaged and/or not in resalable condition. Sale items, paint and fireworks are final sale.

4. Club Monaco

Their Policy: Full-price merchandise can be returned with the original receipt within 60 days of the purchase date on the original tender. After 60 days with the original receipt, merchandise can be returned for a store credit at the current selling price. Sale merchandise can be returned within 30 days of purchase with the original receipt. Return items must be in sellable condition with the original tags attached. Full-price merchandise cannot be returned 90 days after the original purchase date and sale merchandise cannot be returned after 30 days. Price adjustments on items purchased at full-price can be made within 7 days of the original sale date

5. Urban Outfitters

Their Policy: Unwashed and unworn merchandise accompanied by the original receipt can be returned for a full refund on the original tender within 30 days. After 30 days, unwashed and unworn merchandise accompanied by the original receipt can be exchanged for a store credit.

6. Nordstrom

Their Policy: There are no time limits and returns are handled on a case-by-case basis. They will accept almost all merchandise within reason.

The Worst Return Policies

1. Forever 21

Their Policy: Unused and unwashed merchandise with the original tags can be exchanged or refunded on store credit within 21 days.

2. Aritzia

Their Policy: Unused and unwashed merchandise accompanied by the original tags & receipt can be exchanged or refunded for the original tender within 10 days. Within 21 days, unused and unwashed merchandise accompanied by the original tags and receipt can be exchanged or refunded on store credit. All sale items, undergarments, swimwear, hosiery, jewellery, and layaways are final sale.

3. Winners, Marshalls & Homesense

Their Policy: Unused and unwashed merchandise accompanied by the original tags & receipt can be returned for the original tender within 10 days. After 10 days, unused and unwashed merchandised accompanied by the original tags & receipt can be exchanged for store credit. Items returned with a gift receipt will be exchanged for store credit. TJX Style+ Loyalty Card members can return unused and unwashed merchandise accompanied by the original tags & receipt within 30 days.

4. American Apparel

Their Policy: Unused and unwashed merchandise accompanied by the original receipt can be exchanged or returned for store credit after 45 days. They do not offer full refunds, but can typically find a receipt on their database if you have lost the original.

5. Best Buy

Their Policy: Most unopened and unused merchandise can be returned for a full refund within 30 days of the purchase date if you have the original receipt. Air conditions, camera lens and flash, computers, laptops, tablets, dj & karaoke equipment, monitors, portable DVD players, printers, radar detectors and season holiday goods can be returned for a full refund within 14 days of the purchase date. Cell phone and wireless devices can be returned for a full refund within 15 days or 30 days if you have proof you are a person with a disability. Books, magazines, copyright materials, digital downloads, earrings, food, vitamins, supplements, intimate products, open box and floor model major appliances, pre-paid cards, services, deliveries and installations are non-refundable.

6. Mendocino & M for Mendocino

Their Policy: Unworn merchandise with the tags still attached can be exchanged or returned for a store credit within 10 days of the original purchase date. Sale items are final sale.
